William was a 1939 Graduate of Saginaw High School.
He joined the Army Air Corps in 1939 when he graduated.
He was in the 17th squadron of the 24th pursuit group, 5th interceptor command of the 5th Air Force.
He was taken prisoner on Bataan in 1942.
He was a POW for 2 years at POW Camp 10 in Batanges Luzon.
He died when his POW transport ship, the Arisan Maru, en route from the Philippines to Japan was sunk by American Torpedo Bombers.
