Edward served as a Sergeant, 102nd Coast Artillery Battalion, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the New York Army National Guard on January 6, 1941, prior to the war, in Albany, New York. He was noted as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

Edward died in the "Line Of Duty" when he was declared "Missing" after the Flying Boat "Corinthian" crashed while alighting on Darwin Harbour at about 1 am on the morning of 22 March 1942. It was on a flight from Brisbane to Darwin carrying fifteen members of the 102nd Coastal Artillery Battalion.
