Wesley Adams "Budgie" Shewmake was my father's older brother. This site has listed his middle name as "Adam" but in fact his middle name was "Adams"...my grandmother's maiden name. He was KIA during WWII. The exact circumstance remained a mystery for decades. My father made a career in the military and searched numerous military records and cemeteries to learn more about his brother's death. Several years ago, as a pastor I had occasion to meet one of my uncle's closest friends in the Marine Corps. In the course of conducting a funeral for a church member, the deceased's brother recognized my family name and after a few inquiries established that I was the nephew of his friend who had been killed by enemy action. That's when our family finally leaned more, as this man had been present the day of my uncle's demise.
