—-- AVILTON,MARYLAND — Miles Joseph Garlitz, 63, of Avilton, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at his residence.

Born Dec. 6, 1946, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Norris Joseph and Pearl Helen (McKenzie) Garlitz.

Mr. Garlitz was a power plant operator for Western Maryland Health Systems. Miles was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and also a member of the Merchant Marines for eight years. He was a member of the Old St. Ann Catholic Church, Avilton, NRA Endowment Member and Grantsville Post 214, American Legion. Miles was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved his dogs.

He is survived by four brothers, Arnold and Clay, both of Avilton, Cecil, Pocahontas, Pa., Allen, Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Helen Gilpin, Gerard, Ohio; a number of nieces and nephews; special friend, Jamie Miller, Cumberland; and his best buddy and cousin, Paul Garlitz, Avilton.

Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Monsignor James Hannon and the Rev. William Moody officiating.

Interment will be in Maryland State Veteran's Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
