It is not known whom the parents of Hans Martin Walk were. It is also not known for sure if he went by Hans or Martin, but I will refer to him as Martin as many records refer to him as Martin.

Martin set sail from Rotterdam, Holland, on the English ship "James Goodwill" on June 15, 1728 bound for America. He landed at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 11 Sep 1728. . In about 1734 he migrated to Virginia, settling in what is now the northern part of Madison County, Virginia.

Martin first married to Catherine Klaar/Clawr/Clore on 19 May 1735 at St. Marks Parish, Orange County Virginia. They were the parents of four known children, namely:

1. Barbara Walk Frank (1735–1815)
2. Solomon Walk (1736–1785)
3. Martin Walk, II (1737–1791)
4. Catharina Walk Frey (1739–1815)

The family moved from Virginia to North Carolina in c1749-1750. They settled in the Abbott's Creek area, the area then in Anson County, which then became Rowan in 1753 and Davidson County in 1822.

After Catherine Clore Walk died, Martin remarried to another Catherine. A marriage records for Martin Walk to Catherine Gerhard (became Garrett) on 19 Oct 1757 at Rowan County, North Carolina. Was there another wife Catherine between Catherine Clore and Catherine Gerhard? Martin and Catherine Gerhard Walk were the parents of three known children, namely:

5. Johanna "Hannah" Walk Bunch (c1762-p1782)
6. Samuel George Walk (1767-1835)
7. Jonathan Walk (1769-1835)

The children Barbara, Solomon, Martin, Catharina and Samuel stayed in Davidson County, North Carolina. The daughter Johanna "Hannah" married Thomas Bunch on 07 Feb 1782 at Rowan County, North Carolina. Nothing else is known of them. The son Jonathan moved to Pike County, Illinois where he died.

Links to Martin's first wife and six of his seven known children are included below.

BURIAL OF MARTIN WALK

18 May 1735 Michael Claure acknowledged his Deeds of lease and release to Martin Wallick, admitted to record on motion of Martin Wallick.

19 May 1735 Michael Claure to Martin Wallick for 5 shillings, lease of 100 acres, part of Michael's patent.

20 May 1735 Michael Claure to Martin Wallick for £25, release of 100 acres, part of Michael's patent.

Catherine (Clore) Walk died abt. 1745, Culpeper (now Madison) Co., VA.

Following her death, Martin remarried sometime between 1745 and 1748 to Catherine Gerhard/Garrett (c1737-???). Note: really? other records show they married 1757.

Sept. 22, 1748: Martin Walk and his second wife Catherine sold 200 a. of land.

Note: Or did Martin marry three different Catherine's?

1749: Martin moved with his family (incl. 12 year old Martin), ca. 1749/50 to North Carolina. They settled on Abbott's Creek, 16 miles from Friedberg. The first land grant is in 1752, Anson Co., which became Rowan in 1753, and Davidson Co. in 1822. According to the Moravian memoir of his daughter Catherina (Walk) Frey, he remarried sometime between 1745 and 1750, and moved to North Carolina around 1750, settling in the vicinity of Abbotts Creek, which is in present-day Davidson County NC.

In 1759 Ludolph Gottlieb Bachhof came to hold Church service for the interested families: Adam Spach, George Hartman, Johannes Muller, Michel Faber, Christian Frey, Peter Frey, Martin Walk, Christian Hartman, and Christian Zimmerman.

Michael Clore (Clawr) wrote his Will on 10 May 1762, Bromfield Parish in the County of Culpeper (now Madison County) Virginia, and mentions wife, sons John and Peter, and the children of daughter Catherine, formerly the wife of Martin Walk. "Fifthly I give and bequeath to my Grand Children by my Daughter Catharine formerly the Wife of Martin Walk one Shilling Sterling with which they shall be satisfied."

On May 6, 1766, Br. Peter Frey, Sr. was the first person laid to rest in "God's Acre".

8 February 1785: Martin Walk died before 8 February 1785, when his will was proved by the oath of Will Adams in the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, Rowan Co., NC. (present-day Davidson County NC.) It is highly likely that Martin was buried at the Friedberg Moravian God's Acre in 1784/5, based on the following descendants who also lived at Friedberg, and were buried at the Church cemetery in that time period:

*Son Martin Walk (1737-1791), son David (d. 1791), daughter Johannes (d. 1769), the original grave marker was returned to family descendants, daughter Sarah (d. 1781), son Jacob (d. 1790).
*Daughter Catherina Frey (1739-1815), father-in-law Johann Peter Frey, Sr. (d. 1766), husband Peter Frey (d. 1810), and her children.

It appears that the many of the original grave markers had been stolen or removed and later replaced.
