Major George Willoughby Hemans, 29th Lancers (Deccan Horse). He was the son of Colonel Alfred George Willoughby Hemans and Katherine Elizabeth Hemans (nee Meigh), of Eagle Tower, Southsea, Hampshire.
Husband of Helen Hemans (nee Myers), of 2 Nottingham Place, Marylebone, London. They married in Kensington Jul-Sep 1909. They had a son and a daughter.
He was Educated at Harrow School, London. Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst.
Commissioned into the Indian Army (unattached list) as a 2nd Lieutenant on 19 Jul 1899. He spent his probationary year with the Cheshire Regiment in India. He was posted to the 29th Lancers on 1 Oct 1900.
Promoted to Lieutenant on 19 Oct 1901 and to Captain on 19 Jul 1908. He served on the Western Front during WW1. He was mentioned in despatches (Lord French's despatch of Oct 1915).
He was killed in action on the Somme on 4 Mar 1917. He was buried in Albert Communal Cemetery Extension.
