Joseph served as a Private First Class, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Buffalo, Erie County, New York and was a member of the New York National Guard prior to the war.

His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on September 16, 1940, prior to the war, from Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as a Checker and also as Single, without dependents.

Joseph "Died Of Wounds" received in action during the war.

He was awarded the "Silver Star" and the Purple Heart.
