Raymond Luther Cooper was born in Lovettsville, Va. on 4 Jan 1917, and baptized at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lovettsville on 3 Dec 1920. His parents were Harry J. Cooper and Ziola Compher Cooper. He was a graduate of Lovettsville High School. He was married to Marian Deavers of Berryville Va. He was wounded on 12 April and died in a hospital in Italy on 23 April 1944. A memorial service for Raymond was held on Sept. 4, 1944, at New Jerusalem church. At the end of the service the blue star on the service flag in the church, was covered by a gold star, placed by his, father Harry J. Cooper.


PVT Cooper died of wounds suffered during the landing at Anzio.
