GENERAL ORDERS:
Headquarters, 45th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 75 (1944)
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes Pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Arnold O. Aaker, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 191st Tank Battalion, 45th Infantry Division, during World War II. Corporal Aaker's gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
Corporal Arnold Orville Aaker, born 4 Mar 1908, was the son of Ole Embert Aaker and Sirevinia Sadie (Lee) Aaker of Superior, Douglas County, Wisconsin.
In the 1910 census 2-year-old Arnold is living w with his parents and brother Edmund 5, at 1914 Lamborn Avenue in Superior. His father is a motor repairman.
In the 1920 census 12-year-old Arnold is living w with his parents and siblings Edmund 15, and Palina 9, still at 1914 Lamborn Avenue in Superior.
In the 1930 census 22-year-old Arnold and 20-year-old wife Jean are living at 1525 Tower Avenue in Superior. Arnold is a plasterer for a building company.

Arnold and Jean divorced sometime before 1940.
In the 1940 census 32-year-old Arnold is back living with his parents and bother Lee 19, at 1914 Lamborn Avenue. Arnold is still a plasterer. His father is a repairman for a utility company.
Arnold enlisted 13 Jul 1942 at Milwaukee. He'd had one year of high school and was divorced, with dependents. His civil occupation was listed under plasterers. He was 5'9" and weighed 167 lbs. He was assigned to the 191st Tank Battalion which was attached to the 45th Infantry Division.
The 191st Tank Battalion was a 5th Army unit attached to the 45th Infantry Division in Italy in 1943 and 1944. At the end of May with the breakout from Anzio the 45th Division was driving toward Campoleone.
The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county for Wisconsin show Aaker, Arnold O., Cpl from Douglas County as killed in action 28 May 1944 so we can assume he was killed somewhere in the vicinity of Campoleone. Arnold's US WWII Hospital Admission Card File says he died from artillery fragments to the neck and chest.
