T/Sgt Gerome was Killed in action April 9 1944 when a mid air collision occurred. His Ship piloted by Lt Glen Reese while assembling at 7000 feet for mission to Tutow, collided with a plane from another group (392BG )during division assembly. Gerome was killed along with 9 other crew members. There were 2 survivors from Reese's plane and 2 survivors from the 392nd plane.
Sergent Gerome is listed as a member of the 564th BS and as such was not a regular member of the Vaughan/Reese crew. His relationship with Reese as a crew member is not currently established. It is probable that this was an ad- hoc crew of experienced 389th combat veterans. The number of missions Sgt Gerome flew or what crew he was usually associated with is not known. Two Oak Leaf clusters indicates at least 10 or more missions.
