OSSIPEE - Elaine (Durgin) Adjutant, 80, of Old Granite Road, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born April 20, 1929, in Sanford, Maine, the daughter of the late Gilman and Helen (Bride)Durgin, and had lived in Kezar Falls and Porter, Maine, for many years. She had also lived in Freedom and Effingham, N.H., before moving to their home in Ossipee in 1974.
Elaine was a past member of the Porter Grange for many years and will be remembered for her love of genealogy. Elaine also worked for the Limerick Yarn Mills, Limerick, Maine, as well as the Arrowhead Inn for two years, as a pastry chef at the Allen A resort in Wolfeboro, and at Huggins Hospital as the housekeeper of the maternity ward.
She is survived by: her husband of 45 years Leon Adjutant, Ossipee; four children, Beverly Mayo, of New Durham, Dale Douglass, of Brownfield, Maine, Haven Douglass, of Rochester, and Gary Adjutant, of Limerick, Maine; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Reginald Durgin, and a sister Lois Durgin.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Kezar Falls, Maine, in the spring.
Lord Funeral Home, Center Ossipee, N.H., is in charge of arrangements.
