Son of Latimer Peele and Ruth Mills Epps.
KINGSTREE - Word has been received that Ernest Theron Epps seaman, first class, USNR was killed in a plane crash May 11. Seaman Epps was 22 years old and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. L.P. Epps of Kingstree. A graduate of Kingstree High School he had completed three years on his B.S. degree in agronomy at Clemson College.
Joining the Naval Reserve in November 1942 he was called in service in June 1943. He left the states in April of this year. Epps was serving as an aerial gunner on a navy plane in the Pacific. The plane caught fire and crashed at sea at night. Three of the 12 members of the crew were saved.
He was a member of the Kingstree Methodist Church.
Besides his parents, surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Leonard H. McClary and Mrs. Henry C. Eddleman, Jr.; and one brother, Latimer Epps, of Kingstree.
