Stephen, who resided at 1220 Pearl Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Seaman First Class on the U.S.S. Corvina (SS-226), U.S. Navy, during World War II.

He was declared "Missing In Action" when the Corvina was torpedoed and sunk by Japanese submarine I-176 south of Truk.

He had served the Navy for three years at the time of his death and was awarded a Purple Heart.

His remains were not recovered.

Stephen was the only crew member from Delaware on the Corvina.

Son of Nicholas Baran and Anna Leszynsky Baran.
