Antonio's mother died sometime between 1927 when daughter Rosa was born and the 1930 census.
In the 1930 census 6-year-old Antonio is living with his widowed father, sisters Isabel 12, and Rosa 3, in rural Peralta. His father is a sheep herder.
Antonio enlisted 27 Apr 1944 at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. He'd had a grammar school education and was single without dependents. His residence was listed as Clark County, Washington and his civil occupation was farm hand. He was assigned to the 110th Infantry Regiment of the 28th Infantry Division.
Antonio's US WWII Hospitalization card file says he was admitted to the hospital in Feb 1945 for cold injury, trench foot, and released in March.
By early April, the 28th Division moved west of the Rhine and took up occupation duties in the area north of Aachen along the Holland-German border.
Antonio is not listed in the NARA WWII casualty listing for Valencia or Bernalillo County, NM, El Paso County, Texas, or any county in Washington state. Since he died 10 days after the end of hostilities on VE Day (8 May 1945) we have to assumed he either died of wounds or died non-battle in the line of duty from some illness or accident.
