Stan was the son of Jud Oviatt and Elise "Elsie" Day.
He was the brother of Jud Ballard and Lelia Arlene Dispenza, and half-brother of Marjorie Antoinette and Marie Constance.
Stan enlisted in the United States Navy in Inglewood, California, on 6 Oct 1942. Prior to his enlistment, he worked as a flame cutter operator at the California Shipbuilding Corp. in San Pedro. Stan first reported aboard the U.S.S. Cascade on 12 Oct 1942, and he completed recruit training on 17 Nov 1942.
Stan graduated from Class "A" Boilermaker School on 12 Mar 1943, and it was directed that he be assigned duty where his specialized training be fully utilized.
He went aboard the Cascade again on 10 Apr 1943, and he is reported serving on board from 2 Jun 1945 in Kerama Retto and Buckner Bay during the assault on Okinawa and adjacent islands of the Nansei Shoto Group.
Stan received a transfer on 13 Aug 1945 and he was honorably discharged on 6 Dec 1945 at San Pedro, California. His rank was Boilermaker/Shipfitter First Class. Stan was authorized to wear the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one star, the World War II Victory Medal, and he also earned a Good Conduct Medal. He listed finding mechanical work with a telephone company in the Los Angeles area as his post-war plan.
He married Juanita Marguerite Wilcox in Los Angeles in October 1947 and he was the father of three.
