Sarah's father (Abraham Rencher) was a staunch Confederate supporter. At the end of his appointed term (1861) in New Mexico, he was delayed in returning to his home in North Carolina by President Abraham Lincoln because of his Confederate sympathies.

In 1866 Sarah married Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General Allen Latham Anderson. He was the son of Charles Anderson, a one time governor of Ohio, and a most loyal Union sympathizer.

Latham and Sarah had one daughter, Mary Louisa. She was born in 1870.

Part of the will of Latham's father states that Latham and his family are living in North Carolina in 1895.

Sarah is mentioned in several newspaper articles as living with her parents in Pittsboro, NC. through the 1880's. Daughter Mary Louisa attended Chapel Hill University in the late 1890's.

Lawsuits between Allen Latham Anderson and the brother of Sarah, William Rencher show up around this same time.
