Grandma was born in Hjerpen, Jamtlands, Sweden and was the
wife of Gustave Engvall and mother of their nine children:

Sarah (1887 - 1952)
John (1889 - 1955)
George (1892 - 1903)
Victor (1895 - 1971)
Lillian (1896 - 1982)
Edna (1899 - 1936)
Helen (1904 - 1979)
Leslie (1906 - 1990)
Ona (1912 - 1960)

Sarah (Signe), John (Oskar), and George were born in Sweden.

Victor, Lillian, Helen, Leslie, Edna, and Ona were born in Waterbury, Conn.

Lillian was the mother of the four Edgerton boys of Stratford, Conn.

Martha sailed to America with her three children:
Sarah (Signe) age 6
John (Oskar) age 4
and George, who was an infant, aboard The Teutonic, under British Flag, from Queenstown, Liverpool, England.

They arrived at Ellis Island New York on 15 Dec. 1893 seven months after her husband Gustave had arrived on 20 May 1893 aboard The Peruvian, under British Flag, from Glasgow, Scotland.

The Teutonic was a steamship built in 1889. She was 582' long by 57' wide, 9686 gross tons, single screw, carried 1490 passengers and had a service speed of 20 knots (23 mph).

The Peruvian, built in 1863, was an older and smaller ship. She was 312' long by 39' wide, 2549 gross tons, single screw, and had inverted engines with a service speed of 11 knots (12.5 mph). Passenger capacity unknown but probably less than 50.

Assuming decent weather and no engine failure, the Peruvian should have made the crossing in 10 to 11 days and the Teutonic should have made the crossing in 6 to 7 days.

***In 1893 S. Grover Cleveland was President of the United States.***

Grandma was 75 years old.

Rest Together With Grandpa Gustave Forever In Heavenly Peace Grandma.
