He was born Oct. 17, 1949, in Watertown, Wis., the son of Ernest and Alice (Nissen) Gast. He first married Valerie Turner. She preceded him in death. He later married Kathleen Long.
She survives along with six children, Sean Gast of Castroville, Calif., Shannon Johnston of Avon, James Gast of Peoria, Justin Gast of Sciota, Michael Long of Taft, Tenn., and Neal Long of Milwaukee, Wis.; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Gary Gast of Warren and Edward Gast of Lena.
He worked as a millwright at Komatsu America in Peoria, retiring Aug. 1, 2010, with 39 years of service.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a celebration of life from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington.
