Apr 2019: From here back in this ancestry, it could be incorrect as
Wayne Smoot states that this David Smutz is not the son of Abraham Schmutz 1753-1830 as his son David was born in 1796 in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and not in MD.

Farmer, Veterinarian.
Son of Abraham Smutz and Mary Garver (she had 1st m. Rohrer).
David Smutz married 23 May 1809 by Rev Geeding in Washington Co MD to Mary Ann Thomas 1786-1847

Whig
Res: Moved to Tyrone Tp, Fayette Co, PA, from MD in 1816.

From T. E. Woodward's pamphlet of Isaac Smutz and Sarah Stauffer is an old communication of Harold T. Smutz to Agnes Smutz Woodward about David Smutz & Wife to wit:
"David Smutz was a small man, weighing probably 130 pounds. One eye was smaller than the other. He spoke English well but read and prayed in German. His wife was tall and straight with high cheek bones and strong, marked features. She did not speak English. They settled on a very poor piece of land but were thrifty, lived well and brought up a family of eight children. They gave each of the children two cows and one horse besides numerous things with which to begin housekeeping. In politics David was a Whig and in religion they both were Baptists."
