Maria was born in 1846 in Indiana. She was the daughter of John and Maria (Gosho) Smeltzer. On Dec. 7, 1871, she married Andrew Jackson Blackburn in Hamilton Co, IN. To this union, two known children were born (Frank and Oliver Perry "Perry" Blackburn). By 1880, the Blackburns had moved from IN to Richardson Co, NE. They lived there only a couple of years and then moved across the river to Holt Co, MO. They lived there until Feb. 4, 1895, when the sold they land and moved to Benton Co, AR. It was here that Maria died a year later. Her husband eventually remarried and moved to CA.
