Mary Giddings Blake was born on February 18, 1846 at Maryland Tract, Frederick County, Maryland. She had been a resident of the District of Columbia since 1903, when her husband, Dr. Blake, became rector of Christ Episcopal Church of Georgetown. He died in 1928. She died on Sunday, November 17, 1935 at her home in the Wyoming Apartments at the age of 89 years after a short illness. Survivors included her daughter Frances Blake of the Wyoming Apartments and a son, James V. Blake of Akron, Ohio. Funeral services were held at Christ Church with Rev. J.G. Armstrong, rector and Rev. Richard W. Trapnell of New York City officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
