Jesse Underwood Garrett, 85 year-old retired employee of the Carnation Company, died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Mr. Garrett, who resided in Maysville most of his life, had been with Carnation for 22 years. Prior to that, he was connected with the Spar Brick Company.
He was born in Mason County on February 5, 1886, and was a son of the late William and Ida Sharder Garrett. Mr. Garrett was a member of the Catholic Church.
His wife was the former Ida M. Leming who survives.
Mr. Garrett is also survived by four daughters, Mrs. Marietta (Gerald) Crist and Mrs. Georgia (Charles) Toy, of Maysville, Mrs. Katherine (Arvid) Schweitzer of Alexandria, Ind., with whom he had recently made his home, and Ms. Ora Todd of Lexington; a son, Houston Garrett of Lexington, a half brother, Harold Vaughn of Rectorville; a half sister, Mrs. Mary Lathrop of Ohio; 26 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren.
Funeral rites will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Patrick Church by Rev. John Modica and Rev. James O'Rourke. Burial will be in the Bethany Church Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Porter Funeral Home after 4 p.m. today. Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock this evening.
