P. P. Bryant, 95, Pioneer Citizen Died Wednesday
P. P. Bryant of Hornersville, father of the late Birt Bryant of Kennett, died at the age of 95 Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bud Philhours, in Hornersville.
Funeral services were scheduled tentatively for 2:30 pm today (Friday), conditioned on the arrival of a son from Texas. The Rev. C. J. Merideth, pastor of the Hornersville Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hornersville Cemetery with Kinsolving sevice.
Mr. Bryant, a Dunklin County pioneer, was born September 25, 1855 in Decatur County, Tennessee. he moved to Paducah, Kentucky at the age of 7, and moved to Hornersville when he was 15.
The retired farmer and businessman leaves two daughters, Mrs. Philhours and Mrs. Jeff Branum, both of Hornersville, and a son, John W. Bryant of Lamesda, Texas, among other survivors.

While here they visited her mother, Mrs. A. W. Goodwin. Her son, Bobby Wilkins, returned with them after visiting his grandmothers, Mrs. J. C. Wilkins and Mrs. A. W. Goodwin.
Among the out-of-town relatives and friends here for the P. P. Bryant funeral Friday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. John W. Bryant and Bobby Wilkins of Lamesa, Texas, Mrs. Birt P. Bryant, Mrs. Mildred Phillips, Mrs Bill Hughes and L. W. Harkey of Kennett, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schrimph of Jefferson City, Cecil Branum of Blytheville, Arkansas, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Howerton of Sikeston, Rev and Mrs. R. F. Liddell of Senath, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Philhour and children and Mrs. Haley Wicker of Leachville, Arkansas, and John Paul Phillips of East St. Louis, Illinois.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, may 11, at the First Baptist Church for P. P. Bryant, pioneer citizen of Hornersville. Rev. C. J. Merideth conducted the services. Burial was at Hornersville Cemetery with Kinsolving service in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bryant is believed to be one of Dunklin County's oldest citizens being 95 years and seven months of age. He died Thursday at the home of his daughter Mrs. Hattie Philhours where he had been for only a few days, his other daughter, Mrs. Jeff Branum, with whom he made his home for many years having entered a hospital a short time before his death.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Philhours and Mrs. Jeff Branum, one son, John Bryant of Lamesa, Texas, and a number of grandchildren and other relatives.

P. P. Bryant. One of the old and prosperous residents of Hornersville. Mr. P. P. Bryant knew this town when it had only one store. In this vicinity he spent nearly 40 years of his life, and beginning as a poor young man who had the responsibility of supporting his widowed mother and one sister, he worked a stedy progress in his material circumstances and for a number of years has enjoyed a prosperity that fully rewards his earlier struggles.
Mr. Bryant was born in Decatur County, Tennessee, September 25, 1855. His father was a farmer from east Tennessee and during the war moved to Paducah, Kentucky, where he died when his son was seven years old (1862-63). The latter had few school advantages largely owing to the conditions resulting from the war. In 1874 his mother moved to Dunklin County, when he was 15 years old, and support of the mother and sister devolved upon him.
His mother lived with him until a year before her death, which occured about 1887. For several years he worked on a farm near Hornersville where he made three crops, being in debt when he went on the place. He then bought a home and business block in Hornersville and for five years was in business there and did well. Selling out, he was in business at Campbell two years, then in Noble, Arkansas, two years, and in 1893 returned to Hornersville. For two years he drove the mail to Kennett, and then for 12 years conducted a prosperous restaurant business in Hornersville. In 1909 he retired from his active career, but since then has built a two-story brick business house, fifty by fifty on Main Street, and two dwelling houses, and owns thirty acres of valuable land adjoining town.
Mr. Bryant's first marriage was to Almedia Harmon, who died two years after marriage. His second wife, who died while he was in Noble, Arkansas, was Miss Nezzie Fisher. Their three children were: Hattie, Bert and John. In October, 1902, he married Honersville Mary Woodruff who was born in Indiana, July 24. 1870, and came to Hornersville with her parents. They have one child, Cora E. born in 1903.
Mr. Bryant is a Democrat in polities. His fraternal affilations are with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Woodmen of the World at Hornersville and Knights of Pythias at Paragould.

P. P. Bryant. One of the old and prosperous residents of Hornersville. Mr. P. P. Bryant knew this town when it had only one store. In this vicinity he spent nearly 40 years of his life, and beginning as a poor young man who had the responsibility of supporting his widowed mother and one sister, he worked a stedy progress in his material circumstances and for a number of years has enjoyed a prosperity that fully rewards his earlier struggles.
Mr. Bryant was born in Decatur County, Tennessee, September 25, 1855. His father was a farmer from east Tennessee and during the war moved to Paducah, Kentucky, where he died when his son was seven years old (1862-63). The latter had few school advantages largely owing to the conditions resulting from the war. In 1874 his mother moved to Dunklin County, when he was 15 years old, and support of the mother and sister devolved upon him.
His mother lived with him until a year before her death, which occured about 1887. For several years he worked on a farm near Hornersville where he made three crops, being in debt when he went on the place. He then bought a home and business block in Hornersville and for five years was in business there and did well. Selling out, he was in business at Campbell two years, then in Noble, Arkansas, two years, and in 1893 returned to Hornersville. For two years he drove the mail to Kennett, and then for 12 years conducted a prosperous restaurant business in Hornersville. In 1909 he retired from his active career, but since then has built a two-story brick business house, fifty by fifty on Main Street, and two dwelling houses, and owns thirty acres of valuable land adjoining town.
Mr. Bryant's first marriage was to Almedia Harmon, who died two years after marriage. His second wife, who died while he was in Noble, Arkansas, was Miss Nezzie Fisher. Their three children were: Hattie, Bert and John. In October, 1902, he married Honersville Mary Woodruff who was born in Indiana, July 24. 1870, and came to Hornersville with her parents. They have one child, Cora E. born in 1903.
Mr. Bryant is a Democrat in polities. His fraternal affilations are with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Woodmen of the World at Hornersville and Knights of Pythias at Paragould.
