[George] Henphen Lawrence Carlson age 50 years, well known citizen of Center City, died suddenly at his home about 7 am last Sunday, the victim of a heart attack. Mr. Carlson had become ill during the night and shortly after the breakfast hour he had returned to his bed and passed away within minutes.

Mr. Carl's funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Chisago Lake Church at Center City with rev Burdette Benson officiating. Remains were laid to rest at the Chisago Lake Hillside Cemetery.

News of Mr. Carlson's passing came as a distinct shock to the entire community. He had for years been in the excavating and contracting business with his son Loren and had taken part in much of the building done in this section in recent years. He was a hard working and extremely industrious man, honest and very capable in his work.

Henphen Lawrence Carlson was born February 2, 1901 in Sunrise Township, the son of Edward T Carlson and his wife Hilma, (nee Leef) Carlson, who were farming near Kost. As a boy Henphen Carlson attended the rural Kost School.

At the Kost church in May of 1916, he was dedicated with a class of other youth in Christian instruction. On April 3, 1921, he took for his bride, Selma Caroline Mattson from Center City and the couple lived their whole married life together in the home where she was raised. Mr. Carlson's principal occupation was that of was that of an excavating contractor.

After moving to Center City following his marriage, he was received into membership in the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church by adult baptism and confirmation in 1933.

To bless the union was given one son, Loren, who, together with his mother is brought sudden grief by the untimely passing of husband and father, Henphen Carlson had been in relatively good health all his life. He was never hospitalized. An occasional physical check up was routine. An unexpected coronary heart attack brought him to a sudden death at 7:05 Sunday morning, November 13, 1960 at his own home where he had just previously been up reading himself for the day. At the time of his death, his age was 59 years, 9 months and 11 days.

Henphen was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, who died in infancy. In addition to his wife, Selma and his son, Loren and Ida Mae Carlson, he is survived also by four granddaughters, Susan, Barbara, Kathleen and Nancy Carlson all of Center City. Three sisters also survive and are: Josie, (Mrs. Oscar Carlson) of Lindstrom, Olive, Mrs. Oscar Bjork of Minneapolis, Florence (Mrs. Henry Carlson) of Center City, Harry Carlson of Center City, Elwood Carlson of St Paul and Clifford Carlson of Tucson Arizona.

Funeral services in his memory was held at the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church of Center City on Wednesday November 16 at 2:00 pm, Pastor W Burdette Benson of the officiant, Mrs. Edmund Jonason sang the hymns, while at the organ Mr. Roger Crary, organist. Pallbearers who were nephews were: Harold Carlson, John Carlson, Russell Bjork, Lowell Peterson, Steven Peterson and a niece's husband Harold Anderson.

Interment was in the Hillside Cemetery of the Center City congregation.
