Elmo Jackson Dobson
Retired U. S. Army Staff Sergeant Elmo Jackson Dobson, 66 of Reservoir Road, Murphy, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996 in a local hospital.
He was a native of Garvin County, Ok. He retired as staff sergeant from the U. S. Army after 19 years of service. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #10222 and the Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was the son of the late Millard and Minnie Lee Johnson Dobson.
He survived by his wife, Ema Jean Brendle Dobson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy Dobson-Prather and Johnny Prather of Murphy, and Jackie Dobson Pritchett and Eddie Pritchett of Ellijay, GA; one brother, Curt Dobson of Wynnewood, Ok; one sister Ruth Gardenhire of Duncan, Ok; and 5 grandchildren, Tony Pritchett, Beth Pritchett, Ema Pritchett Zachary Prather and Shaun LeCoq.
Funeral services will be held at 1p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Townson Rose Funeral Home Chapel, Murphy. The Revs. David White and Greg Pass will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by veterans organizations: V.F.W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73. Pallbearers will be Gary Moore, J.B. Brendle, Jim Brendle, Joey Reid, Shaun LeCoq and Paul Brendle. Honary pallbearers will be Steve Brendle, Robert Brendle and Jeremy Totherow.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996 at the Townson Rose Funeral Home, Murphy.

Army Specialist Elmo J. Dobson, son of Millard L. Dobson, route 1, Maysville, recently was assigned to the 11th Air Assault Division at Fort Benning, Ga.
The division, the only unit of its kind in the Army, was formed last February in order to develop and implement Army air-ground combat tactics. Air assault units are designed to achieve surprise and gain tactical advantage in combat through the use of aircraft.
Specialist Dobson, assigned to the division's 711 Maintenance battalion, entered the Army in 1951. He was last stationed at Fort Chaffee, Ark. He is a graduate of Maysville High School.
