Donnie enlisted in the Marines 8 June 1960, at Annapolis.
He arrived in Vietnam 22 October 1967 and was assigned to HMM-362, MAG-36, 1st Marine Air Wing. Donnie was the pilot of a UH-34D that crashed and exploded on Dong Nhut Mountain, due to bad weather conditions and darkness, 8 kilometers northeast of Phu Loc.
There were no survivors. Identification was made of the recovered bodies, but not of Major Darrow. He was listed as Missing In Action. He was found and body recovered 22 November 1968 and identified 13 December 1968.
Major Darrow served his country for 8 years.
Survived by his wife; Norma J Darrow, his 3 children, Deretha A, Donieta L and Lonnie L Darrow all of Havelock, NC and his father, Lee L Darrow of Lebanon, MO.
