Born as Elizabeth, to parents Edmond and Catherine Elizabeth Blalock Collins, she was usually known as Lizzie. She was the sister of Thomas Collins, Mary Collins Vicars, Biddie Collins Salyer and John R. Collins.

Lizzie married Henry Clinton Bright, the son of James C. and Louisa Jane Hensley Bright, on June 4, 1888 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. The couple were the parents of James Franklin, William Edmond (who later changed the spelling to Edward), General Sullivan, Virgie, George W. and Lafayette Bordie Bright.

After the death of her husband in 1903, Mrs. Bright did not remarry and shouldered the responsibility of raising her children. She lived her entire life in Scott County, surrounded by family and friends.
