Funeral for William Ted Dupes Jr., 73, of Decatur will be Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with George Sawyer Sr., pastor of Calvary Assembly of God, officiating. A private graveside service will follow. Visitation will be this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Dupes, who died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Crestwood Hospital, was born October 7, 1936, in Jacksonville, Fla., to Freda Dupes Wilson and William Ted Dupes Sr. He attended Lafayette Street Elementary, Gordon-Bibb Junior High, Decatur High School, Florence State University and Auburn University. He worked for The Decatur Daily as a paperboy, Princess Theatre, served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a mechanical engineer from General Electric. Mr. Dupes was a member of Calvary Assembly of God for 24 years where he served as a Sunday school teacher. He was also a Kiwanis Club Board Member, Chairman of Reading Is Fundamental and Chairman of the Scholarship Fund.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice H. "MeMe" Dupes; one daughter, Ginny Dupes Wilson of Birmingham; one son, John Vincent Dupes of Courtland; six grandchildren, Hillary Wilson Green of Columbus, Ga., Justin Michael Dupes of Dallas, Texas, Kathryn Leigh Wilson of Auburn, Lauren Dupes Constant of Asheville, N.C., Michael Blaine Wilson of Birmingham and Hunter Addison Dupes of Courtland; five great-grandchildren, Jayden Cole Dupes of Dallas, Texas, Adlie Claire Green, Laney Mills Green and Wilson Capps Green, all of Columbus, Ga., and Levi William Garrett Dupes of Dallas, Texas; closest relatives, aunt, Sara Freeman Peace of Sacramento, Calif., first cousins, Charles Carroll of Birmingham, Max Leeman of Miami, Fla., Sam Hobbs of Frederick, Md., Norma Chesser of Houston, Texas, Stuart Peace Jr. of Germany and Fred Peace of Sacramento, Calif.

Pallbearers will be Justin Dupes, Michael Wilson, Tres Green, Thomas Constant, Hunter Dupes, Larry Byrd, Patrick McNeal and Billy Hudson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Vint Hudson, Charles Carroll, Sam Hobbs, Charlie Hobbs, Max Leeman and George Sawyer Sr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Assembly of God for the Dream Center.
