Last rites for Hans Jurgen Petersen , 67, were held Friday afternoon, May 7th at the Exira Christian church. The Rev. F.R. Wahl officiating. Mr. Petersen was born December 10, 1887 in Shelby County, t he son of Anton and Anna Petersen. He lived there for 41 years with the exception for a period of time he served with the army during World War I. He never married and made his home with a brother, Andrew, and family and moved with him to Minnesota where he lived until his death, which occurred on May 3, 1954.

Several years before death, Hans became ill and voluntarily entered the state hospital at Fergus Falls, Minnesota. His age at death was 67 years, 7 months and 7 days. Preceding him in death were his parents, four sisters and a brother. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Carl Josephsen of Anita and Mrs. Lena Jensen of Pasadena, California, three brothers: Andrew of Marshall, Minnesota, Arthur of Anita and Anton of Atlantic, also many nieces and nephews. During the services, Mrs. Wahl sang several hymns accompanied by Miss. Eva Nelson. Interment was in the Exira Cemetery. - Audubon County Journal, May 13, 1954
