He worked as a carpenter for the Pennsylvania Railroad, and made his entire life in the town of Wyoming, Kent County, Delaware. He married Lillian Rebecca Fisher (born 21 May 1885 Wyoming, Delaware; died 17 April 1976 Wyoming, Del) on 31 January 1906 in the Wyoming Methodist Church. His parents were John Thomas Benson and Eliza "Jennie" Johnson. Lillian R. Fisher's parents were Carroll Smith Fisher and Mary Lillian Parker. He and his family lived at 114 Pine Street, Wyoming, Delaware (pictured at right). Built in 1906, this is where the Benson family lived for all of their lives. The window on the second floor is the master bedroom. In the rear was a garden, outhouse, and tool shed, all of which Wilmer built himself. Wilmer also built a full sized bathroom, sitting room, kitchen pantry room, and enclosed the back porch, which he added to the original structure. Wilmer K. Benson Sr. had two children: Lillian Fisher Benson (born 18 December 1906 Wyoming, Del; died 30 June 1990 Delaware City, Del) and Wilmer Kersey Benson Jr (born 2 Nov 1915 Wyoming, Del; died 19 July 1999 Gaithersburg, Maryland).
