Malcolm was hit by a train and killed Thursday December 16, 1909 between 11pm-12 am. He was a foreman for the Rock Island Railroad in Lineville. At the time of his death, his widowed mother was in Colorado Springs visiting her daughters. Amelia was pregnant with Luella Cathleen at the time of his death. His daughter Coyle D Lane was sent to an orphange in Council Bluffs shortly after his death

I believe the empty area beside Daniel and Hannah Lane is the resting place of Malcom Lane and 1st wife Hattie Jones Lane. The graves along the line in the distance are Lane grandchildren
According to the holder of the cemetery records, there are 3 empty Lane graves that never were used between Daniel and Hannah and the grandchildren in the distance. This would strengthen my opinion that Malcom, Hattie and baby Roy are likely in those graves and unmarked.

Inquest Develops No New Facts
"The inquest over the body of Malcom Lane, whose terrible and tragic death was given in last weeks Tribune was held on Thursday afternoon, Justice A.R. McLane of Wataga acting coroner. The mangled and scattered remains were gathered up and taken to Mrs. Wallace's empty store building on the south side of the line where the inquest was held. Soloman Brown testified as to discovering the body on Thursday morning and other witnesses were also sworn, but no facts materially different differing from the report we gave last week were brought out and the verdict (sic) of the jury was substantially that the deceased came to his death by being run over by a Chicago Rock Island and Pacific train. Whether he was killed by the No. 12 or No. 62 could not be determined, as both trains passed through between 11 and 12 o'clock Wednesday night. The jury was composed of H. P. Litton, J.N. Hollars, H.C. Gallager, J.B. Moore, G.E. Wheeler amd Wm. Cornell. The funeral was held from the M.E. Church, on Friday, Rev. Dillman pastor of the M. E. Church....."(article torn and incomplete).
