Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau Co., MO—Thursday, 13 August 1998

 

SIKESTON [Scott Co.], MO—Burley H. Alford, 82, of Sikeston died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at his home, following an extended illness.

           He was born Sept. 25, 1915, in Blytheville AR, son of Jimmy and Annie Mae Wicker Alford. He and Wilma Neil were married June 20, 1944, in Blytheville.

           Alford was a maintenance supervisor 18 years with Fleming Co. He was a member of Tanner Street Church of God. He had lived in Sikeston since 1951.

           Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Phyllis Hollis of Jackson MO, Burleta DeRoush of Nashville TN, Jackie Huls of Sikeston, Reta Lewis of Fancy Farm KY, Wanda Sherrard and Marita Smith of Fresno CA, and a son, Billy Alford of New Concord KY.

           Also surviving are five brothers, James Alford of Hamilton, AR, Harold Alford of Blytheville, Pat Alford of Belleville MI, Jimmy Alford of Sikeston, Frank Alford of West Memphis AR; three sisters, Carolyn Richardson of Blytheville, Ophelia VanHorn of Marion AR, Ola Petty of Silver Point TN; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

           He was preceded in death by a sister.

           Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.... Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
