On Friday afternoon of last week, Jacob Anthony, an employee in the Lehigh Valley car shops, at Packerton, was almost instantly killed at that place. It appears Anthony was engaged in fixing one of the broken stock cars in the yard, and had it propped up with trestling, when a switch engine backed up with considerable force, striking a caboose which in turn struck the cars and knocked the stock car at which Anthony was at work forward off the trestling and caught him between it and a car in the rear, catching him at the breast. The man was quickly extricated by some of his fellow workmen, but lived only about ten minutes after the accident happened. He leaves a wife and nine children to mourn his sudden and sad death. No one in particular, we are informed, is to blame for the accident. His funeral took place on Monday morning at St. Paul's church near Cherryville, and was attended by a large concourse of people.
