Allen was a flight instructor at Ft. Sumner Air Force Base in New Mexico. On May 12th, 1944 he was involved in a plane crash. He died as a result of his injuries on June 3, 1944.

Sadly, at the time of his death he was engaged to be married just 26 days later.
