Born Aug. 13, 1920, in Hominy, Okla., to Jesse L. and Alma Rose Milliken Akins, he married Maxine M. Cripe on June 10, 1939, in Missouri. She died March 3, 1996, in Peoria. One grandson also preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Richard E. of Watertown and Donald C. of Huntsville, Ala.; and seven grandchildren.
A World War II Navy Seabee veteran, he was a member of Creve Coeur American Legion Post 1234.
He was a machinist at Caterpillar Inc. in Building KK for 37 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Averyville Baptist Church in Spring Bay.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery, East Peoria.
