Killed in Action near Germeter, Germany during the battle of Huertgen Forrest, Pvt. Giovando had entered the service in March 1944. After training in Texas, he was sent overseas, first to England, then France, Belgium and then Germany.

Prior to his military service he was employed by the American Car Foundry at Madison, Illinois. he was survived by his wife Marie, his parents, a sister and four brothers.
