The son of Charlie and Edith Snodgrass Caraway, he was born July 1, 1926 in Johnson City, TN. Mr. Caraway was a longtime member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Atlanta, GA, where he owned and operated Caraway Opticians. He was also a member of the Sierra Club.
After retirement, he made his home in Mt. City, TN. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Compton Caraway, a brother, Raymond Tipton Caraway, and a sister, Frances Brown.
Surviving are his daughter, Linda Grace Caraway of West Jefferson, NC; a grandson, Robert Joseph Cannata; a sister, Jeanne Caraway of Johnson City, TN.; two brothers: Kenneth Caraway of Mt. City, TN. and James Caraway of Deerfield Beach, FL; and a son-in-law, Steven Cannata of Tampa, FL.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2010 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Boone, NC, with inurnment to follow in the church memorial gardens. Memorials may be made to the Hospitality House, P. O. Box 309, Boone, NC 28607. Salem Funeral & Cremation Services in Winston-Salem is assisting the Caraway family.
