Passages from obit. from the Everett Herald:
Death Calls Former Pastor
Funeral Held for Dr. C. E. Preston Yesterday in the Church He Built
The Rev. Charles Earl Preston, D. D., pastor of the Edmonds Methodist Episcopal church for nine years, passed away Monday morning at the Northwestern hospital, Seattle, after an illness of only a week.
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the Hughes Memorial M. E. church, which he was instrumental in building during his pastorate here.
Dr. Preston came to Edmonds in 1917, taking charge of the local M. E. church which grew under his pastorate until in 1924 his efforts were consummated by the erection of the present church in memory of the late Bishop Matthew Simpson Hughes.
Since leaving Edmonds in 1926, Dr. Preston occupied pastorates at Vashon two years and at Morton a year and a half where he was stricken last week while at work early in the morning.
While at Edmonds, Dr. Preston's activities were not confined to the church but he was vitally interested in the work of the Chamber of Commerce, and was a charter member of the Edmonds Kiwanis club.
In 1901 he was united in marriage to Ella Moss of Providence, R. I. To this union were born four children: John E. Preston, Edmonds; Mrs. Ralph K. Williamson, Seattle; Ellis Preston, Seattle; and Paul of Morton.
Dr. Preston also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Frank Dull, Sterling, Colo.; and Mrs. Etta Taylor, Boston, Mass.
He was not entitled to use "Dr.", however it was used in his obituary.
