Betty J. Allington, 77, of 1025 W. Truitt died at 4:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at her residence.

Born July 28, 1924, in Henry to Clara Sharick Groh, she married William Allington on Dec. 23, 1945, in Chillicothe. He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Bill (and Kathy) of Chillicothe and Randy Carson of Sanibel, Fla.; one daughter, Sandy (and Rick) Snare of Chillicothe; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She had worked for Kenny's IGA for 16 years before retiring.

She was a member and past matron of Martha Washington Chapter 178 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a member of American Legion Post 593 Auxiliary in Lacon and Chillicothe Historical Society.

She was a board member of the seniors group of Pearce Community Center.

She was a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Chillicothe, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Jerry Tupper will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, with Eastern Star services at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Chillicothe City Cemetery. Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to her church or to Methodist Hospice in Peoria.
