Ernest D. Maier, 79, who co-owned and operated his family's
Bladensburg-based building supply and block manufacturing company for decades, died Jan. 20 [2010] at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie. He had lung cancer.
His father started Ernest Maier Block Co. in 1926. The younger Maier ran the business with his brothers over the years. The family sold the company in 2000.
Ernest Donald Maier, an Annapolis resident, was born in Cheverly and was a 1948 graduate of Bladensburg High School.
He was a past member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Betty Ward Maier of Annapolis; a daughter, Melisa "Missy" Sinsel of Dulles; a brother, Fred Maier of Silver Spring; and a sister, Hilda McCombs of Mount Airy.
