George grew up on the family farm in Marengo, Illinois. As a young man he worked with his uncles on a steamship and along with his brother, Calvin, submitted a couple of engine patents.
He married Lillian Orean Worth on 2 Nov 1888 at Washington County, Iowa. They had 3 children together - Pauline who married several times and had a daughter, Margaret Lillian Steere, from her first husband; a son, Clyde, who was born and died within a couple of months and is supposedly buried at the cemetery in Garden Prairie, Illinois; and a son, George Francis who died at the age of 12 when he fell through the ice while skating on Lake Michigan.
Pauline (1888-1968) married 3 times. She and her 3rd husband, Harry E. Walsh (1879-1973) both died in New Mexico and were cremated.

George lived most of his life as a stationary engineer living in Chicago, Illinois.
George and Ivia never married but had 2 sons together.
George is buried in an unmarked grave and although her death certificate indicates so, his wife, Lillian is not buried at Oak Woods according to cemetery records. Her final resting place is unknown.
