With a heavy heart, I have to write.. My loving beautiful mother left this world today. She has been in a lot of pain the last few years, and had complications due to Alzheimers. She was almost 86 years old. I miss my precious mother already..

She was not only my mother, but also my best friend. We had the bond of motherhood that started us on the path of best friends. I found out I was pregnant and did not want to share this wonderful news with her over the phone. My husband at the time and I drove all the way to Athens, GA where she and Wesson were living while he was working for his job. We got there in the wee hours of the morning. I could not wait until daylight, and almost shouted, "I am pregnant." She and I jumped up and down, hugged and hugged each other some more.

She put the coffee on and we stay up the rest of the morning and all day talking, laughing and taking in the wonderful news of me finally becoming a mother and her having another baby to love and hold in her arms.

One of the eulogies written and read at my mother's funeral by Cassandra Dacus

Agnes Donaldson was one of the most amazing, remarkable human beings, I have ever known. Sincere, gracious, loving, the perfect example of what it means to be a lady. A wonderful loving mother, grandmother, wife and friend.

The beauty of her face was surpassed only by the beauty of her heart; a heart filled with a love for her family and friends. A heart filled with a love for life, a heart filled with caring, and compassion for those in need, people, and animals alike. Her capacity for love re-defined the word love, and love defined a large part of who Agnes was.

She loved all of her children, as if; each of them was the only one to love unconditionally and with all her heart. The same was true with her grandchildren. Blood didn't make her their granny love did. To have Agnes in your life was to have been blessed by God. To know Agnes was to love her. She had that effect on people.

She also put those she loved ahead of herself. About a week after Snooky died it was my daughter's Jamie's 7th birthday. I told Jamie that Granny Agnes would probably be too sad to come to her birthday party. Yet, there she was, setting aside her grief for the happiness of a 7 year old. I thanked Agnes for being there, and told her, "We would have understood if she hadn't made it." Agnes said, "Where else would I be? I'm her grandmother, and besides, it's Snooky's birthday too." I'll never forget the smile on her face that day as she hugged my child, and told her she loved her. If you didn't know what love meant, spend a day watching Agnes with her family.

Her love for stray, and mistreated animals must have made God smile. Cats, dogs, horses, mules, ducks all thrived under her care. Animals in need had a true friend in her, and found good loving homes thanks to her, and often that home was with her.

Her compassion for people in need was also an amazing thing to see. She did much good for many, motivated only by a good, and tender heart; never seeking praise for her kindness. If ever God sent Angels to live among us on Earth, she was one of them. She made you laugh, she made you smile, she made you feel better about yourself, and she made you feel like everything would be alright. She made you know that love was real, and that there was good in the world.

She was the kind of person, everyone should want to be like, and you could learn a lot from her. If you weren't sure how to be a wonderful parent look at how she did it. If you didn't know how to be a perfect wife, and have a love-filled marriage, watch her with Snooky. The love they shared was amazingly beautiful. They were truly soul mates.

She was the best excellent example of what a loving grandmother should be. She was the ultimate definition of what it means to be a friend. Her small frame was filled with incredible strength- strength of heart, and strength of character. She embraced life whole-heartily with that strength. She was absolutely amazing, and it was a joy, a blessing, and a privilege to have been a part of her beautiful life.

Agnes was a treasure sent from Heaven, and to Heaven she has now returned. Heaven's garden had an empty spot and on July 17th, God knew it must be filled. So, he looked around that day for the most perfect rose he could find, and he picked Agnes; for only the best would do. Our loss is now Heaven's joy. She will be forever missed, and she will be forever loved. We are all better people for having had the privilege of knowing her, and being loved by her. There will never be anyone else like Agnes Donaldson.
