OBITUARY:

Alice Janett Alley, 87, died August 29, 2008 at Down East Community Hospital due to complications following a series of strokes. She was born January 7, 1921, the adopted daughter of the late Edward and Delana (Alley) Chambers. Janett grew up on the settlement of Sealand on Head Harbor Island and the Jonesport area. She united in marriage on December 24, 1939 to Raymond Larson Alley in a double ring ceremony. The couple were married for over fifty-four years. One of of the highlights of their happy life spent together was the 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary party held in the couple's honor hosted by their daughter, Aloma, and a close family friend Sharon (Coffin) Look. Their many relatives and friends came to wish them well and extend their congratulations. Janett was employed by the Look family over a period of three generations. She worked at O.W.B.S. Look Co. for many years. She enjoyed many happy days with the Moosabec Senior Citizens Club where she was an active member. Her sterling personality reflected a warm and loving heart that reached out to all who knew her. Janett gained the title of Birthday Cake Nannie by dozens of children who she remembered with a beautiful homemade cake on their special day. Janett was also a longtime member of the Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church. She is survived by her daughter; Aloma A. Alley; a grandson, Jody Alley and his wife, Jennifer; great-granddaughter, Stacy Rose Alley; two step great-grandchildren, Robert and Jessica Peabody; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; a longtime special friend, Gerry Look; and special friend, Wayne Faulkingham. Janett was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Larson Alley; son-in-law, Maynard F. Alley; granddaughter, Stacy Lynn Alley; step-father, Newell Kelley; and three brothers-in-laws and two sisters-in-law. Visiting hours will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church in Jonesport where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3 with Pastor George Woodward officiating.
