Henry Leon Bell, age 80, of Cynthiana, Kentucky, died Saturday June 19, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital, in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born June 30, 1929, in Boyle County, Kentucky, a son of Rodney and Catherine Shields Kearns. Mr. Bell was a graduate of Oddville High School and Georgetown College. He was an honorably discharged Air Force veteran, having served his country during the Korean War. During his service time, he was a member of a selected Airman Singing group that toured Korea.

Mr. Bell was a retired farmer, salesperson for Kawneer and cashier for the National Bank. He was a director of the Federal Land Bank and served as president from 1969-1973. He was a member of the Cynthiana Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher and member of numerous committees. He was a member of the IOOF Cynthiana 127, where he held several state and local offices. He was named Oddfellow of the Year of Kentucky. He was a member of VFW #4075 in Frankfort and the Frankfort Rebekah Three Links #48, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Kentucky Farm Bureau.

He was the beloved husband of 55 years to Mary Jane Snodgrass Bell, father of James Rodney Bell, of Harrison County, and Anne Katherine (Mike) Swanson, of Lexington, and brother to Carlos Bell, of Lancaster. Other survivors include his brother-in-law, Jim (Martha) Snodgrass, of Cynthiana, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, at the Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Larry W. Bishop. Burial will follow the service in Battle Grove Cemetery The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home, with an Oddfellow service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunrise Children's Services (formerly Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children), 300 Hope Street, Mt. Washington, Kentucky 40047-1429. Pallbearers will be Mike Swanson, Jim Snodgrass, William D. Probus, Joe Singleton, Charles Tribble and Valdez Floyd.
