Services for Kathey Gass Diggs, 63, of Lubbock, formerly of Slaton, will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2010 at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock with Rev. Bob Dupont and David Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service.
Kathey lost her battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy peacefully on July 16, 2010.
Kathey was born in Tyler, TX on Feb. 27, 1947. She moved with her parents, Bobby and Gordon Gass, to O'Donnell. She started school in Lubbock and graduated Valedictorian from Slaton High School in 1965.
Kathey began working for Civil Service in 1965 and continued for over 35 years in Lubbock, TX, DeRidder, LA, St. Petersburg, FL, Cocoa Beach, FL, San Antonio, TX, and Honolulu, HI before retiring in El Paso, TX in 2002.
She married CSM James Earl Diggs on August 16, 1996 in San Antonio, TX. Together they traveled the world, thanks to the military, living in San Antonio, TX, Honolulu, HI, El Paso, TX, Colorado Springs, CO, DeRidder, LA, Heidelberg, Germany, and Washington, D.C. before ultimately returning back to Lubbock.
Kathey was preceded in death by grandparents, Walter and Marie Teeter of O'Donnell and Bill and Rose Gass of Tahoka.
Kathey is survived by her husband, Command Sergeant Major James Earl Diggs of San Antonio; daughter Jill Barnwell and husband Alan of Lubbock; step-son, HA James Eldridge Diggs of Bethesda, Maryland; mother and father, Bobby and Gordon Gass of Lubbock; brother, Billy Gass and wife Lynette of Comfort; sisters, Janette Gass and Gorla Gass of Lubbock, and Frana Bartley and husband Ron of Lubbock; mother and father-in-law, Willie Frank and L.C. Diggs of Eufaula, AL; brothers-in-law, SFC (Ret.) John Diggs and wife Abby of Savannah, GA, Capt. Charles Diggs and wife Pearlice of Hope Mills, NC, SFC Arthur Diggs and wife Sharon of Atlanta, GA, and SSG LeGary Diggs and wife Sharon of West Grove, PA; sister-in-law J'Retha of Eufaula, AL; 17 nieces and nephews; and the two lights of her life, her grandchildren John Ryan and Brynlyn Jane Barnwell.
