On 28 Dec. 1934, Mary married to a wonderful man, William B. Burroughs. They lived on a tobacco farm in Mitchellville, Md. Although they had no children of their own, they raised their 2 nephews and cared for other relatives, neighbors and friends. In the 1950s they bought a home in Fairhaven, Md.
After Bill died, Mary moved to a retirement apartment in Gaithersburg, Md. but retained her home in Fairhaven, where she visited often. She went to Texas when her younger sister was ill to help care for her. After the death of Jeanne, she remained in Texas but visited her friends at her homes in Maryland. Her Fairhaven house was sold in early 1990. Her last visit to Maryland was at age 99 for my son's high school graduation. She gave up her apartment at that time.
Mary attended both the Mt. Oak and the Friendship Methodist Churches in Md. and the Trinity Baptist Church in Texas.
Through this site, I have been fortunate to connect with several people who had been close to Mary and Bill Burroughs. How fortunate we are to have known them!
Link to her beloved nephew, Bobby.
