David Jasper Ballenger is the son of James Hamilton and Eady Caroline Willis Ballenger. His father died in Tennessee in 1863 during the Civil War and he and his brother James William were raised in a family of widow women and their children. He married Judy Della Bobo Ballenger and they had three children, two of whom died very young. Their daughter, Hassie, lived to maturity, married and brought grandchildren into their lives.
