My Beloved Father

Ray was put in an orphanage along with his siblings because the mother couldn't afford them. Dad was on his own since twelve. He was the 2nd oldest of 5 children. Ray ran away from the orphanage at age 12 and followed the circus across the states. Since he was too young to work, Ray worked for the circus in exchange for food and shelter. In 1943 he met my mom, got married in 1944 and was the father of two. A son who was a veteran of Vietnam, and a daughter. Ray was the grandfather of 3 and great grandfather of 5.

My dad never served in any war because he was blind in his right eye as a result of an severe eye injury at age 5.

Ray was the son of Andrew Jackson Mitchell and Janie Fairfax (Mitchell) Young. Ray lost his father when he was six years old. His mother died in 1981.

Ray's older brother, Albert, we have no information on him except what's on his bio. Albert left the orphanage at age 16 and never looked back or had any contact with his family. He died at the age of 85 in 2001.

Ray's youngest brother, Leonard, drown on his 13th birthday in 1933.

Ray's sister, Gladys, was born July 31, 1921 and died Feb. 6, 2001. First husband's name is John Babb. Mother of 6. Her second husband's name is unknown.

Ray's youngest sister, Nellie, was born Aug 10, 1923 and died May 16, 2000. She was married to Norman Howard Mudd and both were WW2 veterans. Mother of 2.
