Karen J. Steward, 52 DURAND - Karen J. Steward, 52, of Durand died at 7:01 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2010, in Monroe Clinic Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born July 27, 1957, in Rockford, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom and Joyce (Nyman) Long. Married Kim Steward in Rockford on Dec. 26, 1975. Karen was a dispatcher for the Durand Fire Department for 17 years and was an avid Cubs fan. Graduated from Durand High School, Class of 1975. Survived by husband, Kim Steward; and mother, Joyce Long, both of Durand; sisters, Debbie (Charlie) Spry, Orfordville, Wis., Cathy Long, Brodhead, Wis., Denise (Bill) Starnes, Davis and Patty (Jeff) Land, Rockford; brother, Chuck (Sue) Long, Pecatonica; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her father. Funeral ceremonies at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 12, 2010 in Durand American Legion, 211 State St., Durand; Deacon Richard Mulcahey, St. Mary Catholic Church of Durand, will officiate. Burial in Durand Cemetery. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home, 101 Main St., Durand, from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, July 11.
