Born at Indian Creek in Sullivan County.

Occupations - Blacksmith;
Farmer (he was a large land owner).

Samuel and Mary married on 2 Mar 1845 in Washington County, Tennessee.
They were the parents of eight children;
Mary Elizabeth, Elizabeth Ann, Joshua Polk, David Kitzmiller, Abel Washington, Julia A., Nancy Louise, Samuel Judson.

In 1839 he was a 2nd sergeant of the Volunteer Militia, assisting with the removal of the Cherokees to Oklahoma.

Samuel was a prominent member of the Old Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for several years.

Samuel had a large burial plot in the Old Buffalo Ridge Cemetery, where he and Mary Elizabeth are buried. It is 36 feet long, 10 feet wide, surrounded by a stone wall 3 feet high and has a small iron railing on top.
